Jacquemus' Resort 2016 contrasts relaxed summer attire with uniquely structured pinstripes, keeping in line with the brand's idiosyncratic constructions and layering.
Inspired by his mother, Simon Porte Jacquemus' Resort collection is all about asymmetry, graceful ageing and experimenting with breathing new life into tradition. Shot in southern France, the collection puts a 21st century spin on elusively chic French style. From pleats to pinstripes Jacquemus designed this collection based on clothes that he could envision his mother wearing. However, instead of being safe and conservative as the inspiration could suggest, the clothes are fresh and innovative, showing how discovering a new way of dressing has no age limit. The colour palette is simple and creates an effortless appeal. Monochrome feeds into the collection's timelessness. Overall, it is an incredibly cohesive collection with the tailoring suggesting that it is an ode to working mothers. This reverence of motherhood is not entirely new to the fashion world, as it follows on from Dolce and Gabbana's Fall 2015 collection. Dolce and Gabbana, however, channelled a much more traditional look. The Jacquemus mother knows how to mix staples such as the crisp white shirt with contemporary styling and structures.
If you're missing the opportunities for layering that autumn/winter offers, look no further than Jacquemus for new and exciting ways to reinvent the pieces already in your wardrobe.
